Walking Together Hand in Hand Towards your Child's Educational Goals

About Ms. McClain

Hi! I am Ms. McClain, and I am the proud owner of Worthy Scholars Tutoring Academy. My desire to make a positive impact led me on a life-changing Mission trip to Haiti, where I discovered my true calling as an elementary school teacher. Upon completing my education, I had the privilege of teaching as a Kindergarten & 1st-Grade Associate Teacher at Harbor Day School, being a student teacher for a 6th-grade GATE class, and serving as a substitute teacher for grades ranging from preschool to 12th grade.

During my journey, I also had the incredible opportunity to work as a nanny for many years, fueling my passion for working with children and witnessing their growth. I see myself not only as a tutor but also as a mentor, dedicated to encouraging my students to embrace their fullest potential. My experience working with high-profile families has enabled me to teach students from all backgrounds at a high level.

In my leisure time, I find immense joy in supporting my former students at their extracurricular activities, attending church, visiting Disneyland, spending time at the beach, going shopping, volunteering, traveling, and savoring new experiences.

Providing in-home tutoring services to my former students, I found a passion to work with my students individually and watch them flourish.

Ms. McClain's Approach

Learn with a passionate teacher

I love teaching each of my students as if they were my own. I’m trying to be the teacher that I pray my future babies will have one day. I focus on the whole child, looking at their wellbeing from all angles—academically, socially, and emotionally. My lessons are tailored to include each student’s passions and strengths, preparing them with enriched activities that foster skills like critical thinking, verbal reasoning, and motor development.

Before each session, I first ask my students how they are feeling and check in on their week, ensuring they feel seen, loved, and heard. Social-emotional learning is at the core of how I teach because I believe nurturing these skills is just as important as academics. I also encourage confidence by having students repeat after me: “I believe in myself, Ms. McClain believes in me, and I can do this.” Phrases like “I can do hard things” or “teamwork makes the dream work” further reinforce their resilience. My goal is to help students succeed not only in the classroom but also in the real world, developing confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love for learning.

More than just a Tutor

part of the family!

I truly want to be a part of my students’ and their families’ lives. I want to be the first to know when they lose a tooth, score their first soccer goal, need encouragement after losing a pet, or learn all about their trip to Hawaii—celebrating all of life’s blessings in between.

At Worthy Scholars Tutoring Academy, we are a family, and I want my families to understand that I am eager to know the entire family, pets included. I tailor all of my lesson plans to each child individually and collaborate with both my students and their families to determine the most suitable teaching method, recognizing that each child learns uniquely.

I believe that by cultivating a positive, encouraging, and affectionate learning environment, my students will have the support and tools necessary to pursue their dreams. They will also know that I am always proud of them, regardless of the circumstances. I consistently conclude my sessions by reminding my students of their worthiness.

Guided by Faith

A faithful tutor

If Christianity is meaningful to your family, I’m more than happy to incorporate the Christian faith into our sessions. It’s essential to me to work with families of all different backgrounds, making our learning experience inclusive and diverse.

However, if that’s not the case, I want you to know that my faith guides me to use my talents for the betterment of others. This translates into a strong passion for helping your child succeed, regardless of their beliefs or background.

The meaning behind the business

When I was coming up with the name of my company, I wanted it to be something that was very meaningful and impacting on my life.

My first thought was that I had to incorporate the word “Worthy” since that word completely changed the way I personally viewed myself and changed the trajectory of my life. About 4 years ago, I had one of the most special, impactful, and one of my favorite people in my life telling me how worthy I was for the first time. I remember as if it was yesterday and remember what both of us were wearing, our exact location, and the joyful tears coming down my face. It has been my “word” ever since then and I pray I can make my students feel the love I received by just hearing that one word.

Next, I wanted to incorporate my faith into my logo and that’s where I added 1 Peter 4:10. This verse talks about using our gifts to serve others. I believe God has given me the power of working with children, teaching, and giving me an overflowing amount of patience, kindness, and gentleness.

XOXO,
Ms. McClain
